Now you might think we're going to start talking about how important hydration is for your skin (it is, and we will) but we also wanted to talk about how focusing on this cheap, easy and simple step in our daily lives can make a big difference on our overall wellbeing.

Hydration is the cornerstone of our everyday wellbeing. When hydrated our bodies function more smoothly, our skin shows the benefits, our blood flow and lymphatic system both work better, our joints are better lubricated, our hair follicles grow stronger, we have more energy and our brains work more efficiently too!

As water is vital to every single function our bodies perform, even mild dehydration has a big impact. Did you notice how you felt during the recent mini heat wave? 

How Does Hydration Impact My Skin?

Skin cells are full of water. It's what makes the surface of our skin feel plump and bouncy.

During ageing, as our skin loses it's natural elasticity and some fine lines appear, dehydration can exacerbate this making wrinkles much more visible and leaving skin looking dull and lacklustre. Not exactly the healthy glow we are after.

Water is also vital for healing, meaning dehydration can also damage the barrier function of our skin causing it to become sensitive, flaky and cause redness and breakouts. Eek, no thanks!

How Much Water Should I Drink?

Ideally you should be drinking 2.5 litres of water for women and 3.5 litres for men. But we would caveat this by being guided by your own body and what it is telling you. If you are just getting started on upping your water count, then work up gradually (for obvious reasons!).
