Best Order for your Skincare Routine
The Best Order for your at-home Skincare Routine
With our at-home skincare routines becoming increasingly complicated, it can be difficult to work our what order we should apply each product, which combination of ingredients compliment each other, and crucially which don't.
But don't worry, RITUAL Beauty & Skin Clinics in Hampshire are here to help you work out how to layer your skincare routine to maximise results.
1 - A simple rule to follow
When applying your serums, moisturisers and other lotions and potions, a simple rule of thumb is to apply the thinnest and lightest product first, and the richest, heaviest product last. Always apply water-based products before oil-based ones too and you can't go far wrong.
2 - Think about the best time of day for each ingredient
For example Vitamin C works best in the day so apply in your morning routine, whereas Retinol should always be applied in the evenings only. Top Tip - Always ensure you cleanse the morning after applying your retinol before any sun exposure. Yes, that means before that early morning run or dog walk.
3 - Ingredients not to miss
If the following ingredients are not in your daily skincare routine, then they need to be! Hylauronic Acid, Retinol and SPF. Need advice, hit reply with the ingredient missing from your routine and I will help you work out how to include it.
4 - Combinations to avoid
Retinols, AHAs and BHAs are all doing the same thing (in different ways. They are all exfoliating the outer layers of the skin to varying degrees. Combining these ingredients can quickly lead to over-exfoliation, resulting in sensitivity, irritation, redness and a compromised skin barrier.
5 - Wet or Dry?
Some products are more effective on damp skin to boost absorption and lock in moisture. Think Hylauronic Acids and hydration boosting products. Whereas applying Retinol on damp skin can cause irritation, so always apply to dry skin.
And finally remember, your at-home skincare routine doesn't need to be overly complicated or long-winded, it's more important that your routine works for you. That way you are more likely to stick to it, consistency is key!
